All over the world, communities are working to improve their surroundings. To regenerate the natural environment which is their home and their livelihood. The Green Silk Road supports connections between these communities, to realise a reimagined type of road, or rather: network for trade, travel and learning. Stories of the ancient Silk Road evoke images of slow travel, of storytelling around campfires, of colourful caravans and cultural exchange. Today, the trade routes between Asia and Europe – and between all other continents as well – have completely transformed: airplanes and freight ships, exploitation of workers and degeneration of nature are the images we are now confronted with – if we care to look.
Since those Silk Road days, globalisation has expanded: there is not a single community in the world that is not, through travel and trade, through climate change or conflict, connected to other communities. The Green Silk Road joins the societal shift from extraction and domination to regeneration, care and wellbeing.
Trade
GSR co-creates regenerative value chains linking customers to landscapes through ecological products and experiences. Trade revenues fund livelihoods and Bioregional Treasuries, supporting autonomy, regeneration initiatives, and community resilience.
Training
Travellearning programmes cultivate regenerative knowledge, skills and values through immersive, intergenerational learning. Open Badges, learner guilds, and communities of practice support decentralised accreditation and collective knowledge building.
Travel
A commons-based travel network connects bioregions through routes, homestays, gatherings, and shared resources. Travelers become weavers, strengthening bonds, solidarity, and a sense of belonging across landscapes.
